Why Bethlehem

Why Bethlehem

בֵּית לֶחֶם Beyth Lechem {bayth leh’-khem}                                         Meaning:  Beth-lehem = “house of bread (food)” 1) a city in Judah, birthplace of David 2)

Jesus did very little that was not foretold of the prophets. The birth place of the Jewish Messiah was just as important as the rest of His divine ministry on Earth.

Believers around the world will celebrate the birth of our Lord and Savior this December 25th. Most Christians are unaware of the reason that Jesus had to be born in Bethlehem.  You see, Jesus is the Bread of Life. Also, Jesus was the manna from Heaven and the bread at the communion table.

Why Bethlehem

God said to those in the wilderness:

NLT  Deuteronomy 8:3 Yes, he humbled you by letting you go hungry and then feeding you with manna, a food previously unknown to you and your ancestors. He did it to teach you that people do not live by bread alone; rather, we live by every word that comes from the mouth of the LORD. (Deu 8:3 NLT)

Why Bethlehem

Christ is the bread that was broken for the world:

23 For I have received of the Lord that which also I delivered unto you, That the Lord Jesus the same night in which he was betrayed took bread:
Jesus Hands Holding Bread and Wine24 And when he had given thanks, he brake it, and said, Take, eat: this is my body, which is broken for you: this do in remembrance of me.
25 After the same manner also he took the cup, when he had supped, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood: this do ye, as oft as ye drink it, in remembrance of me.
(1Co 11:23-25 KJV)

NLT  1 Corinthians 11:26 For every time you eat this bread and drink this cup, you are announcing the Lord’s death until he comes again.

Why Bethlehem

Well, it shouldn’t be  a strange thing that God sent the prophetic picture of the Bread of Life, who was born in the “House of Bread,” so that, when the story is told these truths are undeniable.

NLT  Micah 5:2 But you, O Bethlehem Ephrathah, are only a small village among all the people of Judah. Yet a ruler of Israel will come from you, one whose origins are from the distant past. (Mic 5:2 NLT)
