Update: Question: “Why did God strike Uzzah dead for touching the Ark of the Covenant?”

In a time when the Messiah could return any time now, the body needs to be ready to share their faith at any time, by any means. Now, there are times when a theological question surfaces like, “What in the world is a sin unto death?”

Sin Unto Death

Editor: Val Gunter

Are we witnessing to people who are doomed, or are there people who are so bad that even God can’t stand them? No, that couldn’t be the truth, right?

What does “Sin unto Death” mean, in the scripture when the Bible says that a man will be forgiven for any sin if he confesses and repents? Then how can “sin unto death” threaten the repentant?

Colossians 2:11-14
(AMP)

11 In Him also you were circumcised with a circumcision not made with hands, but in a [spiritual] circumcision [performed by] Christ by stripping off the body of the flesh (the whole corrupt, carnal nature with its passions and lusts),

12 having been buried with Him in baptism and raised with Him {to a new life} through {your} faith in the working of God, {as displayed} when He raised Christ from the dead.

13 When you were dead in your sins and in the uncircumcision of your flesh (worldliness, manner of life), God made you alive together with Christ, having [freely] forgiven us all our sins,

14 having canceled out the certificate of debt consisting of legal demands [which were in force] against us and which were hostile to us and which were hostile to us. And this certificate He has set aside and completely removed by nailing it to the cross.

Glory to GOD!

But, if The Messiah strips off the power that enslaves our minds to crave after lustful desires, how are we threatened by the “sin unto death?

Can we just repent, like Paul, who was a blasphemer? Didn’t God use Paul, in a powerful way?

But, first let me tell you about the wonderful plan of ADONAI, who gave the Jew “Torah” not Law. Torah has always referred to instruction for Life and prosperity, well being, and Devine communion, with the ELOHIM, THE ALMIGHTY CREATOR.

Well, this is how I came to understand 1 John 5:16 “There is a sin unto death.”

He will provide protection, safety and abundant life. So, God wrote down some secrets of staying ahead of man’s enemy, who is the Devil. At the same time, the Torah (Law) gave man power with God. Consequently, the Bible contains segments where GOD allows us to see how sinful we are, without HIS truth.

Romans 7:11-13
(NIV)
11 For sin, seizing the opportunity afforded by the commandment, deceived me, and through the commandment put me to death
.

12 So then, the law is holy, and the commandment is holy, righteous, and good.

13 Did that which is good, then, become death to me? By no means! Nevertheless, in order that sin might be recognized as sin, it used what is good to bring about my death, so that through the commandment sin might become utterly sinful.

Here is the plan of GOD. First, GOD wrote down the truth. That truth held Satan in check. But man struggled to keep the truth. Then ADONAI sent the WORD of GOD, HIS Son, who accomplished the goal of Torah and obeyed every part. Then, ADONAI sent the HOLY SPIRIT to guide man through all truth. Then ADONAI sent you to demonstrate what real love looked like. Out of all the things created by God, they were to teach the next generation. This truth that we carry would explode in the heart of a generation who never heard. The power you carry.

John 16:5-13
(CWSB)
The Work of the Holy Spirit
5 But now I go my way to him that sent me; and none of you asketh me, Whither goest thou?
6 But because I have said these things unto you, sorrow hath filled your heart.
7 Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you.
8 And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment:
9 Of sin, — because they believe not on me;
10 — Of righteousness, because I go to my Father, and ye see me no more;
11 — Of judgment, because the prince of this world is judged.
12 I have yet many things to say unto you, but ye cannot bear them now.
13 Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will show you things to come.

Is there any hope for me?” Yes, just change your mind and let the Holy Spirit rescue your soul while there is time. Yeshua is waiting to heal your heart and put you on His path for your life.

“I have never been loved, and I know he won’t love me.” It’s messed up in here.

Open the door and let Him in, things will become better when His glory fills the room.

You haven’t heard the truth yet.

We never know how hard Our Heavenly Father labors to get us into the place of HIS desire.

Now, in 1 John 5;16, what does it mean that a man may sin unto death? It simply means that the idol that is in his mind is lying to his heart. Pride and pain causes him to reject ADONAI’s life preserver. Sometimes, people refuse God’s best proposition.

1 John 5:16
(CWSB)
16 If any man see his brother sin a sin which is not unto death, he shall ask, and he shall give him life for them that sin not unto death. There is a sin unto death: I do not say that he shall pray for it.

1 John 5:16-17
(MSG)
16 For instance, if we see a Christian believer sinning (clearly I’m not talking about those who make a practice of sin in a way that is “fatal,” leading to eternal death), we ask for God’s help and he gladly gives it, gives life to the sinner whose sin is not fatal. There is such a thing as a fatal sin, and I’m not urging you to pray about that.

17 Everything we do wrong is sin, but not all sin is fatal.

1 John 5:16-19
(NLT)
16 If you see a fellow believer sinning in a way that does not lead to death, you should pray, and God will give that person life. But there is a sin that leads to death, and I am not saying you should pray for those who commit it. 17 All wicked actions are sin, but not every sin leads to death.
18 We know that God’s children do not make a practice of sinning, for God’s Son holds them securely, and the evil one cannot touch them. 19 We know that we are children of God and that the world around us is under the control of the evil one.

John 9:35-41
(CJB 2016)
35  Yeshua heard that they had thrown the man out. He found him and said, “Do you trust in the Son of Man?” 36  “Sir,” he answered, “tell me who he is, so that I can trust in him.” 37  Yeshua said to him, “You have seen him. In fact, he’s the one speaking with you now.” 38  “Lord, I trust!” he said, and he kneeled down in front of him.
39  Yeshua said, “It is to judge that I came into this world, so that those who do not see might see, and those who do see might become blind.” 40  Some of the P’rushim nearby heard this and said to him, “So we’re blind too, are we?” 41  Yeshua answered them, “If you were blind, you would not be guilty of sin. But since you still say, ‘We see,’ your guilt remains.

John 9:40-41
(MSG)
40 Some Pharisees overheard him and said, “Does that mean you’re calling us blind?”
41 Jesus said, “If you were really blind, you would be blameless, but since you claim to see everything so well, you’re accountable for every fault and failure.

Colossians 2:9-15
(NLT)
9 For in Christ lives all the fullness of God in a human body. 10 So you also are complete through your union with Christ, who is the head over every ruler and authority.
11 When you came to Christ, you were “circumcised,” but not by a physical procedure. Christ performed a spiritual circumcision—the cutting away of your sinful nature. 12 For you were buried with Christ when you were baptized. And with him you were raised to new life because you trusted the mighty power of God, who raised Christ from the dead.
13 You were dead because of your sins and because your sinful nature was not yet cut away. Then God made you alive with Christ, for he forgave all our sins. 14 He canceled the record of the charges against us and took it away by nailing it to the cross. 15 In this way, he disarmed the spiritual rulers and authorities. He shamed them publicly by his victory over them on the cross.

The ancient Pool of Siloam

John 9:1

(Arch SB)

JOHN 9 The water of the Pool of Siloam in Jerusalem was regarded as sacred. According to rabbinic tradition, during the celebration of the Feast of Booths water was drawn from the pool into a golden vessel and carried in procession to the temple (cf. Jn 7). Jesus instructed the man born blind to wash in this same pool (9:1–7), although it was Jesus — the source of “living water” (7:38) — who did the healing.

The question of where the Pool of Siloam was located has been examined on the basis of reports from the Bible, Josephus, ancient pilgrims and archaeological findings. There were actually two pools. The first, the “Lower” or older “Pool of Shiloah” (cf. Isa 8:6; 22:9–11) collected water from the Gihon Spring, east of the city, via a short channel. The second, or “Upper” Pool, also received water from the Gihon Spring, but it came through an underground tunnel that had been cut through rock by King Hezekiah around 701 B.C. Hezekiah strategically situated the Upper Pool within the city walls to serve as a secure water supply. The Lower Pool would have been located outside the city of his day.

For a long time, the Upper Pool was considered the best candidate to be the Pool of Siloam of Jesus’ day. However, in 2004 the remains of a previously undiscovered pool were found to the southeast of the Upper Pool; it was closed to the Lower Pool and an area known as the King’s Garden. Numismatic evidence — coins from the late Hasmonean period (c. 90 B.C.) and from the Jewish Revolt period (c. A.D. 63) — prove that this pool was in use in Jesus’ day. A stairway of three tiers leading down to this pool has been found, and one side of the pool was 225 feet long (68.5 m). This was no doubt the Pool of Siloam of John 9.

The miracle of the Gospel of John 9 was how well the blind man aligned the story of ADONAI’s relationship with HIS Son. The blind man demonstrated faith in Yahweh (יְ֝הוָה) and the Messianic King.

Few people understand the purpose of the Torah and its rituals and traditions had a purpose. The rituals told the stories in 3D. One must be very careful not to speak negatively of a Devine Oracle or Message from GOD. As Pharaoh said “Who is the lord that I will obey him. Pharaoh creates a sin unto death.

Exodus 4:21
(NLT)
21 And the LORD told Moses, “When you arrive back in Egypt, go to Pharaoh and perform all the miracles I have empowered you to do. But I will harden his heart so he will refuse to let the people go.

2 Samuel 6:6-11
(NIV)
6 When they came to the threshing floor of Nakon, Uzzah reached out and took hold of the ark of God, because the oxen stumbled. 7 The LORD’s anger burned against Uzzah because of his irreverent act; therefore God struck him down, and he died there beside the ark of God.
8 Then David was angry because the LORD’s wrath had broken out against Uzzah, and to this day that place is called Perez Uzzah.
9 David was afraid of the LORD that day and said, “How can the ark of the LORD ever come to me?” 10 He was not willing to take the ark of the LORD to be with him in the City of David. Instead, he took it to the house of Obed-Edom the Gittite. 11 The ark of the LORD remained in the house of Obed-Edom the Gittite for three months, and the LORD blessed him and his entire household.

Question: “Why did God strike Uzzah dead for touching the Ark of the Covenant?”

Answer:
The story of Uzzah and the Ark of the Covenant is found in 2 Samuel 6:1-7 and 1 Chronicles 13:9-12. As the ark was being transported, the oxen pulling the cart stumbled, and a man named Uzzah took hold of the ark. God’s anger burned against Uzzah and He struck him down and he died. Uzzah’s punishment does appear to be extreme for what we might consider to be a good deed. However, there are reasons why God took such severe action.

First, God had given Moses and Aaron specific instructions about the Tent of Meeting and the movement of the Ark of the Covenant. “After Aaron and his sons have finished covering the holy furnishings and all the holy articles, and when the camp is ready to move, the Kohathites are to come to do the carrying. But they must not touch the holy things or they will die. The Kohathites are to carry those things that are in the Tent of Meeting” (Numbers 4:15). No matter how innocently it was done, touching the ark was in direct violation of God’s law and was to result in death. This was a means of preserving the sense of God’s holiness and the fear of drawing near to Him without appropriate preparation. Why did God strike Uzzah dead for touching the Ark of the Covenant? | GotQuestions.org

Why then was Yeshus, (Jesus Christ of Nazareth) killed? Oh, the Son of God was caught, red-handed carrying your sins while on Holy ground.

Why are you defending someone you can’t see?

The miracle of the Gospel of John 9 was how well the blind man aligned the story of ADONAI’s relationship with HIS Son. The blind man demonstrated faith in Yahweh (יְ֝הוָה) and the Messianic King.

Jesus, the Messiah, did not give the blind man a free ride, because he would pay dearly for his position believing that this stranger was the embodiment of the move of GOD. If he would only say that he was lying and the Holy Spirit didn’t rise up in him, he could keep his membership with the local Synagogue.

However, this would be the sin unto death; to speak evil of, opposing, resisting, rejecting, or doubting the Holy Spirit. As his family and friends looked on, the blind man was excommunicated from the Synagogue, and all he received out of the deal was the KINGDOM OF GOD, forever, throughout eternity. Hallelujah!

So, people who speak evil of the RUACH HAKADESH or “The Breath of GOD” or the sanctifying agent of ADONAI, and reject the Holy Spirit may never hear from God again, unless, they really cry out to God the way the Apostle Paul did and received forgiveness.

Welcome back.

When God is on the Inside

1 John 5:1-13
(Complete Jewish Bible 2016)
1  Everyone who believes that Yeshua is the Messiah has God as his father, and everyone who loves a father loves his offspring too. 2  Here is how we know that we love God’s children: when we love God, we also do what he commands. 3  For loving God means obeying his commands. Moreover, his commands are not burdensome, 4  because everything which has God as its Father overcomes the world. And this is what victoriously overcomes the world: our trust. 5  Who does overcome the world if not the person who believes that Yeshua is the Son of God?
6  He is the one who came by means of water and blood, Yeshua the Messiah — not with water only, but with the water and the blood. And the Spirit bears witness, because the Spirit is the truth. 7  There are three witnesses — 8  the Spirit, the water and the blood — and these three are in agreement. 9  If we accept human witness, God’s witness is stronger, because it is the witness which God has given about his Son. 10  Those who keep trusting in the Son of God have this witness in them. Those who do not keep trusting God have made him out to be a liar, because they have not trusted in the witness which God has given about his Son. 11  And this is the witness: God has given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. 12  Those who have the Son have the life; those who do not have the Son of God do not have the life. 13 I have written you these things so that you may know
that you have eternal life – you who keep trusting in the person and power of the Son of God.

2 Thessalonians 2:10-12
(AMP)
10 And by unlimited seduction to evil and with all wicked deception for those who are perishing (going to perdition) because they did not welcome the Truth but refused to love it that they might be saved.
11 Therefore God sends upon them a misleading influence, a working of error and a strong delusion to make them believe what is false,
12 In order that all may be judged and condemned who did not believe in [who refused to adhere to, trust in, and rely on] the Truth, but [instead] took pleasure in unrighteousness.
